@ Uncle Melvin you are right, there are no Fatherless children. That sounds too kind.

@twesajr you just gave me an idea for another topic. So true is it that Men are praised for doing what they are supposed to do in the first place. There are so many Great Men in our community who do step up to the plate but the media chooses to show the ones who are DEADBEATS for entertainment. I don’t watch any of those shows. I stopped years ago because I felt the portrait being painted of urban families are so unbalanced.

Niece of mine – how ya doing? Just one note re your intro- there are no fatherless children. I think that to some extent we minimize it when we say there are. We need to call them what they are – deadbeats.

I agree. I would also like to point out how its only single women that are stigmatized. If a woman is walking through a mall with her child she is considered the irresponsible baby momma. On the other hand, if a man is walking through the mall with his children people stop and congratulate him for doing it alone. True he does deserve applause, but shouldn’t a single mother receive the same applause?

Whenever people feel like their rights are being violated, they always compare it to the civil rights, which is purely ridiculous. If a white man walk down the street; no one would discriminate until he did something to make them think he was gay. Our black people back in the day couldn’t hide that blackness. But you basically this world is just going down, I don’t know what to say about the new fad, it is craz, everybody ahs a girlfriend or a boyfriend. Do what you do , but stop fighting for these so called rights, you got it, damn, this world is going to hell anyways. I believe in a higher source. So many of us are mislead to thinking it is okay for that lifestyle. Okay, do what you do, but don’t be doing all that in front of me. Just pray for our nation everyone, it is not the new black.

OMG, SO how true is this? I am so tired of the sorry men out there, who don’t even deserve the title father. What happen to the men who want to work and support their family, instead of laying up with they baby mama waiting on her county check? This situation is so sad, that it sickens me, but to all the single mothers out there, I know you don’t want to hear it, but keep your head up and enjoy your children. Don’t let the down fall of a ragedy man hold you from enjoying your children, because you are constantly arguing and pitying yourself. File that child support…I don’t care if he don’t have a job, someday he will have to get a job, or he might win the lottery, and that check come to you, he might win a lawsuit, but your back pay comes to you first. Don’t worry about him working under the table, because he will forever be uneasy , uncomfortable, and never live a peaceful life, with the burden of back pay lingering over his head. But what we can do is appreciate the one’s who take care of the children who are not even their’s, give him the love, the kindness of woman and the respect and enjoy. Don’t let that bum ass baby daddy steal that joy, he didn’t even know he controlled.

It seems to me, the D.A. is using him as a scapegoat. They really have nothing on him, but because Fred has triumphed while incarcerated, refrained from negative and controversial activity, he does not fall under the “usual m.o.” of those locked up, not to mention the fact his story would get out and the D.A. would no doubt be thoroughly questioned as to the depth of “Why” Fred Hill received such a sentence in the first place, when you have far worse cases being paroled daily. I too will now be monitoring this case, and will do my part, as well as the most important thing I can do, which is Pray for the Mighty Hand of GOD to intervene in JESUS name..

I feel your emotion. It really irks me when people compare there “political feat” of the moment to the civil rights movement or the holocaust. Those were horrible periods in our history and should not be thrown “out there” for public sympathy to ones cause.

This makes me really angry!! How dare people attempt to compare a lifestyle choice (this sparks another debate) to skin color. The media and this includes Tyra must STOP!!! Gay men/women can fool people for years about their sexuality, but we can not hide the color of our skin. Gone are the days of people passing…I know we are supposed to be tolerant of others and their ideologies, I get that I know we are suppose to love everyone I get that, but what I will never accept or allow is for the struggle that we (Black Folks) have gone through in this country to be minimized because someone decided to jump on the oh aren’t we all alike and going through the same struggle band wagon. I am incredibly offended…

interesting… people do think of it that way now. i don’t. and for many of the same reasons. i tend to look at it like this. 1) you can still be killed in some towns if you are black (true for being black, and for being gay). 2) you can attempt to hide yourself to get along in society (not true for the majority of black people, true for being gay). 3) having you for a best friend is socially acceptable and trendy in the media (it has NEVER been trendy to have a black friend in the media, just seen as the politically correct thing to do so you can avoid being called a racist). 4) when you gather for function (ANYTHING where alot of you are in one location) people don’t call the police immediately (again, black people have to worry. gay people do not in my experience). 5) every time you want to rally for equal treatment in a situation, it is called affirmative action and you are told you’re holding yourself back and you really just need to let the past go (again, i don’t see gay people having to worry about it).

side by side comparisons prove to ME that gay is not the new black. yes we’ve come a long way and there are more doors open than ever, but just because we’re no longer in the haunted mansion doesn’t mean we’re out of the haunted woods yet.
